Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

During our lives we all suffer from at least one injury, accident or some form of traumatic experience (such as witnessing trauma to someone else). We are thankful when the experience is over and attempt to get on with our life. Sometimes however, we don't manage to move on as easily or quickly as we would like, and the trauma becomes extended and impacts upon our lives. It is not easy to explain Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to someone who has not experienced it. It's draining to wake after a nightmare of the incident, or to suffer flashbacks even when going about our normal daily duties. Sudden emotional outbursts can occur and the response from those around you may just be to 'Get on with it and cope', making you feel even more emotional and guilty for not being able to cope in the expected way. People can suffer for years from pain and distress and may be aware of remembering again and again the events they want to simply forget. Hypnosis can help you deal with the past, so you can get on with your future.

There are many causes of PTSD, and for some people the signs of the disorder develop almost immediately after the cause of the trauma, for some it may not develop for many years after, with or without a trigger. What are the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress disorder?

  • Possible reliving the event, either in dreams or awake
  • Being Unsettled or distressed at work, general day to day etc
  • Avoiding situations associated with the trauma
  • Showing a heightened sense of being 'on guard'
